NOW HIRING: Senior Privacy Engineer

Company: DuckDuckGo
Website: https://duckduckgo.com
Headquarters: Paoli, Pennsylvania, United States

We are a fully distributed, diverse team from around the world, on a mission to make DuckDuckGo the company people trust most with their online privacy, and we want your help!

Join us as a Senior Privacy Engineer and help build the privacy technology that underlies DuckDuckGo's search engine, mobile apps and browser extensions.

As part of our growing Privacy Engineering team, you will collaborate with team members at all levels to improve our existing privacy technology, research and understand new online privacy threats and contribute to the development of solutions to protect users against them. Examples of projects you might work on include: researching how browser fingerprinting is happening in the wild and developing solutions to protect our users against it, running experiments to measure and improve the usability of privacy features across our products, and taking ownership of the technology that powers our privacy solutions (e.g. a crawler that identifies trackers on the web or the cross-platform implementation of tracker blocking in our apps and extensions).

We are a remote company, we empower our team to work wherever they want around the world. That means you have to be self-directed and self-motivated to succeed. If that seems awesome and you like the idea of our core values -- Build trust, Question assumptions, and Validate direction -- you'll fit right in.

What you will do:
  • Lead projects from proposal through postmortem, assessing vague problems, proposing high impact solutions, and executing them against a set of success criteria.
  • Contribute to and demonstrate ownership over major components of our privacy technology, taking responsibility for their maintenance and improvement over time.
  • Represent DuckDuckGo externally as part of industry privacy working groups, conferences or standards body discussions.
  • Step up to resolve product issues that impact our users – large and small.
  • Play a key role in improving our software architecture (in both our user-facing products, and internal processes) with the goal of increasing quality and throughput.
  • Mentor peers through remote collaboration opportunities, including: product brainstorms, technical design discussions, pair programming sessions and code reviews.
  • Write pragmatic, testable code that works consistently across devices.

What we are looking for:
  • Experience working on privacy solutions in an engineering capacity (e.g. tracker blocker, password manager, or similar technology).
  • Deep understanding of web technologies, how they can be exploited and how they can be used to prevent against exploits.
  • Deep technical understanding of online privacy threats and the existing solution space to protect against them.
  • Proficiency in JavaScript.
  • Effective project management skills.
  • Creative problem solvers and risk takers. You like to take initiative to push projects forward but know when to involve others.
  • Excellent communication skills. You can validate your decisions and communicate them clearly.

Other things to know:
  • While we leverage specific job titles for hiring purposes, we do not use them internally. Instead, we follow our own professional levels, with expectations for each level clearly defined across several dimensions.
  • We are a small, remote team distributed across time zones, and we rely on a variety of communication tools throughout the day
  • Sometimes we meet up! Expect to travel at least two times a year: once for our all-hands meetup and again for a team retreat (each ~4-5 days).
  • We believe in a focused approach to collaboration, where individual team members work on a single top priority at a time, each supporting larger, company-wide objectives. This philosophy serves to impact our vision to raise the standard of trust online.
  • Our work philosophy centers on empowered project management. All team members have opportunities to run projects.
  • Transparency supports individual and team success at DuckDuckGo. We encourage everyone to participate in areas of interest throughout the company. Anyone and everyone can (and should) ask questions and offer feedback about our products and internal projects.
  • We aim to exemplify our values (build trust, question assumptions, and validate direction) in everything we do.
  • While this is a full-time job, we offer a flexible work arrangement with no core hours, expecting an average commitment of 40 hours per week.
  • We support professional development of our team members through career advisory and a learning stipend, reinforcing our culture of growth and skill-building.

Website: https://goodjoojoo.com
Headquarters: Remote

We’re a lean, mean team of digital marketers who work with everyone from e-commerce hustlers bringing in 9 figures a year to innovative apps backed by some of the best VCs around. We focus on paid advertising and marketing automation and everything we do is driven by numbers. We thrive on getting clients a great return on their money.

We also value freedom and responsibility like no other. We’re 100% remote, but you’ll be welcome to visit our office in downtown Austin whenever you’d like. We also meet up several times a year to jam together and have some fun (the next team retreat is in Bali — yes, for real).

We want people (you and our clients) to do well and also do good in their lives and communities.

Someone who excels in this role will become a key stakeholder in Good Joo Joo with the ability to inform strategy, pick and choose their projects, and lead client communications.

About You:
  • We need someone who is willing to wear multiple hats and switch gears quickly. Excellent written and verbal skills will get you very, very far in our eyes. Attention to detail is everything.

  • Reliable — you do what you say you're going to do, when you say you're going to do it.
  • Accurate — able to follow instructions to a T
  • Efficient — you can independently prioritize your task list & you love “beating the clock” on a task that should have taken a long time, but didn’t.
  • Tactful — you think things through and communicate clearly and professionally.

  • Familiarity with HTML / CSS.

NOW HIRING: Senior Application Security Engineer

Company: Zapier
Website: https://zapier.com
Headquarters: San Francisco, California, United States

Hi there!

We're looking for someone to join our Engineering team at Zapier as an Application Security Engineer Are you interested in helping build and secure a powerful automation tool? Then read on…

We know applying for and taking on a new job at any company requires a leap of faith. We want you to feel comfortable and excited to apply at Zapier. To help share a bit more about life at Zapier, here are a few resources in addition to the job description that can give you an inside look at what life is like at Zapier. We hope you'll take the leap of faith and apply.
  • Our Commitment to Applicants
  • Culture and Values at Zapier
  • Zapier Guide to Remote Work
  • Zapier Code of Conduct
  • Diversity and Inclusivity at Zapier

Zapier is proud to be an equal opportunity workplace dedicated to pursuing and hiring a diverse workforce.
Even though our job description may seem like we're looking for a specific candidate, the role inevitably ends up tailored to the person who applies and joins. Regardless of how well you feel you fit our description, we encourage you to apply if you meet these criteria:

You care deeply about building secure products in secure ways that simplify the lives of millions of people through automation.

About You

You have web application and infrastructure security experience. Keeping the core Zapier web application secure is at the heart of this role. Zapier is a SaaS product, so experience building software and managing infrastructure under a similar model is a big plus.

You know what makes browsers and sites secure. The web browser is practically the operating system of the internet; these days nearly everything that happens online, happens in a browser. You’ll help us continue to keep customer data safe by ensuring the “first mile” is trouble-free.

You love writing software and building infrastructure. Most of what you’ll do each day is guiding, building and maintaining Zapier's infrastructure and product. You'll focus on high value, high risk portions of Zapier. You'll use code to automate and improve the more mundane parts of auditing and monitoring of internal processes, as well as in the product.

You have worked with teams before on large Python, AWS, & Kubernetes projects. You’re also familiar with some common frameworks for languages like Django, Flask, or Rails as well as React/Backbone.js.

You've also worked extensively in cloud providers like AWS, GCE, or Azure.

You love doing things efficiently. At Zapier, the work you do will have a disproportionate impact on the business. We believe in systems and processes that let us scale our impact to be larger than ourselves. You'll be in a unique position to find and eliminate "insecure and painful" experiences and replace them with "secure and joyful" experiences.

You love learning. Engineering is an ever-evolving world. You enjoy playing with new tech and exploring areas that you might not have experience with yet.

You love to set your own direction. At Zapier, we have one team meeting each week and one-on-one meetings every month. Between those we chat in Slack and then go make things happen.

  • Review code across Zapier's product and infrastructure.
  • Locating weak points across Zapier and strengthening them.
  • Ship code to millions of users every week.
  • Experiment: this is a startup so everything can change
  • As part of our All Hands Support initiative, help customers have the best experience with Zapier as possible.

How To Apply

We have a non-standard application process. To jump-start the process we ask a few questions we normally would ask at the start of an interview. This helps speed up the process and lets us get to know you a bit better right out of the gate.

After you apply, you are going to hear back from us, even if we don't seem like a good fit. In fact, throughout the process, we strive to make sure you never go more than seven days without hearing from us.

About Zapier

For the past six years, Zapier has been helping people across the world automate the boring and tedious parts of their job. We do that by helping everyone connect the web applications they already use and love.
We believe that there are jobs a computer is best at doing and that there are jobs a human is best at doing. We want to empower businesses to create processes and systems that let computers do what they are best at doing and let humans do what they are best at doing.

We believe that with the right tools, you can have big impact with less hassle.

We believe in small teams. Small teams are fast and nimble. Small teams mean less bureaucracy and less management and more getting things done.

We believe in a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment. All teammates at Zapier agree to a code of conduct.

You just need the skills and drive to succeed in this role and the ability to work from anywhere.

Compensation:
  • Competitive salary (we don't use remote as an excuse to pay less)
  • Great healthcare + dental + vision coverage*
  • Retirement plan with 4% company match*
  • Profit sharing
  • 2 annual company retreats to awesome places
  • 14 weeks paid leave for new parents of biological or adopted children

  • Unlimited vacation policy. Plus we require you to take at least 2 weeks off each year. We see most employees take 4-5 weeks off per year. This isn't a vague policy where unlimited vacation means no vacation.
  • Work with awesome companies around the world. We partner with great software companies all over the world and you'll constantly get to interact with people from these great companies
*While we take care of our international folks as best we can, currently, healthcare and retirement plans are only available to US-based employees.
