Success in the role requires a high degree of flexibility and adaptability, a passion for both the practice and the principles of effective software development, a deep knowledge of development technologies, and a desire to work closely with the team to ensure our apps live up to Pixel Union’s reputation for industry-leading quality.

We believe that working collaboratively is the best way to write code that won’t slow a team down over time. We do so through regular pairing and thoughtful code review - our developers are comfortable explaining the thinking behind their technical choices and the tradeoffs considered when making them.
We’re a remote-friendly team: we welcome our team to join us in our Victoria HQ, and we’re flexible on when & where you do your best work.

Continuous improvement is core to our way of working. The successful candidate will have a history of making things a little better in everything they touch, whether that’s through automation of the development pipeline, improving testing practices, making suggestions on process change, or contributing to product strategy.


Some skills we’d love to see:

 Our apps are primarily written in Node.js and PHP - experience developing apps with these technologies is required. Familiarity with things like Express, React, Laravel, and GraphQL will make it easy to dive right in.

An increasing portion of our development is in Elixir & Phoenix. Interest in learning & building with these emerging technologies will be valuable. We’ll help you ramp up your knowledge with regular mentorship, as well as direction on the best learning materials for your experience level.
Experience maintaining, deploying, and debugging applications on cloud platforms such as AWS and/or Heroku will be a benefit.
