We believe small, empowered teams can ship products with the highest impact. We are remote-first, with engineers on our team working from home offices in Romania, Cyprus, New Orleans and more! We embrace open source and love to contribute. Tell us where you'd like to work when you apply!

As a Full Stack Developer, you'll be building features across the stack, taking the time to improve the architecture and share knowledge with those around you. Building sustainable, scalable software from backend services to the front end.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Design, build and maintain APIs, services, and systems
  • Build intuitive web applications using modern web frameworks
  • Build new features for internal and external users
  • Handle escalations from merchant support requests
  • Participate in the product development process from start to finish, from helping scope projects to measuring their success and iterating based on feedback
  • Work in cross-functional teams with designers, product managers, and engineers

We currently power over 40,000 rewards programs, reaching more than 50 million customers, and serving 100k API requests/hour. Our primary deployment languages are Ruby on Rails, React & Ember.js, but as a team, we enjoy learning new languages and technologies - so this list could change! We use Github, Slack, and CircleCI to communicate efficiently and ship code every day.

Requirements

You're a developer who gets excited about turning ideas into reliable production code. You appreciate clear code that can be understood by others (and yourself!) 6 months down the line. You enjoy collaborating with other developers and get excited about thousands of people experiencing a feature you shipped just minutes ago. You thrive on fast feedback loops & iterative development cycles. You've got experience developing robust features for scale at pace.

What we’re seeking:

  • 3+ years technical experience in software development
  • A capable engineer, with a previous background building web or mobile applications
  • Experienced in full-stack development and software architecture patterns, able to understand how a wide variety of technologies and systems interact with each other
  • The ability to build software systems given a set of technical designs
  • An ability to adapt to changing priorities. We move quickly but deliberately.

Traits or experience we’d love to see (you don’t need them all to apply):

  • Comfortable writing code in a few of Smile’s primary deployment languages (Ruby on Rails, Ember.js, React) and enjoys learning new languages and technologies
  • Knowledge of secure coding practices and test-driven development approach
  • Interested in solving open-ended business problems with a combination of technology and creative thinking

It’s not an easy process, but we think you’ll find it rewarding and a great preview of what working here is really like.

NOW HIRING: Copywriter / Content Strategist

Company: Speechify

Website: https://www.speechify.com

Headquarters: Los Angeles, California, United States

Speechify is the easiest way to listen to the world’s information. Articles on the web, documents in the cloud, books on your phone—we absorb the world’s content and help our members listen to it on the go, at their own speed, with tools that make learning easier, deeper, and faster.

Or, put another way: what Spotify has done for audio entertainment we’re doing for audio information. And whatever we’re doing seems to be working: we’re #1 in our category, profitable, and have hockey-stick growth.

With that growth comes the need for a writer—part copywriter, part content strategist—to clean up our many experiments and mistakes and establish concise, telegraphic language for our apps, funnels, and marketing.

This is a key role and ideal for someone who thinks strategically and writes persuasively, works quickly and iteratively, and—obs—loves language.

Some of the things you’ll do:

  • Create or refine copy across iOS, Chrome, desktop, and Android apps
  • Work with designers, PMs, and marketing to develop a language for new products
  • Establish a language framework and library so that we can scale how we talk about our products
  • Help others understand the business value of concise, compelling writing that telegraphs our benefits and reinforces our brand
  • Influence our process and help shape the design org

To succeed here, you’ll need:

  • Experience. You’ve created language and content strategy for other start-ups
  • Craft. You excel at translating strategy to accessible themes and metaphors and know how to unpack customer features, benefits, and outcomes
  • Systems thinking. You know how to connect the writing for one product to another and can establish a framework to talk about them consistently and at scale
  • Moxy. You’re curious, expressive, and know how to engage those around you to draw out insights and ideas to boost your product opinions.
  • Speed. You work quickly to generate ideas and options and know how to decide which things can ship now and what things need time.
  • Focus. We’re a high-growth startup with a busy, remote team. You know how and when to engage or be heads down.
  • Collaboration. You know how to inspire, play, and negotiate with opinionated designers, marketers, and PMs.

We offer:

  • A fast-growing environment where you can help shape the culture
  • An entrepreneurial crew that supports risk, intuition, and hustle
  • A hands-off approach so you can focus and do your best work
  • The opportunity to make an impact in a transformative industry
  • A competitive salary, a collegiate atmosphere, and a commitment to building a great asynchronous culture
